Estudiantes have recently confirmed on their official website that Manchester City have completed the capture of Dario Sarmiento. It is believed that the Argentine winger will become a Man City player on July 1st later this year (via www.estudiantesdelaplata.com).
Sarmiento became Estudiantes’ second-youngest player ever to play first-team football back in 2019. He made his debut for their senior side at the age of 16 and has since gone on to establish himself as a sporadic feature in the Argentine club’s match-day squad.
The 18-year-old has already made 21 senior appearances for his current employers so far, picking up one assist in the process across various competitions. Sarmiento has often come off the bench for Estudiantes this season but deserves a pat on the back for averaging 0.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Copa de la Liga this season. However, the Argentine whizkid needs to be more careful when distributing possession from the right flank after completing 68.5% of his attempted passes in the Argentine first division (stats via whoscored).
Sarmiento has already caught the eye at such a young age by producing some mesmerising displays from the right side of Ricardo Zielinski’s attack. Hence, Pep Guardiola could make him into a future star if the youngster can adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of English football.
Sarmiento is a quick and agile winger who can be a joy to watch when he is dribbling at full swing in the opposition half. He has got a low centre of gravity and boasts terrific balance that allows him to get the better of his marker in the attacking end of the field. However, the Argentine wonderkid is still quite raw, so it is only natural for a young player like him to take some time to settle into life at Manchester before staking a claim for a place in Guardiola’s starting XI.
An up and coming talent like Sarmiento will undeniably improve the quality of Man City’s world-class academy that has produced some generational youngsters like Phil Foden in recent years. Hence, the Mancunian club could prove to be a dream destination for the player as he will soon have the opportunity to grow into a class act in his position under the watchful eyes of Guardiola over the next few seasons.
All in all, there is no denying that Sarmiento will a winger to keep an eye out for in the future as he has the potential to become a fan-favourite at the Etihad Stadium in the coming years.
