In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Manchester City defender Abdukodir Khusanov is on the radar of Chelsea. It has been mentioned that the Blues are among the clubs hoping to land the Uzbekistan talent from the Mancunian club next year.

Khusanov’s Important Role At Man City Last Season

Khusanov enjoyed a solid campaign with the Premier League club recently as he managed to put in a run of impressive performances on the defensive third of the pitch. The 22-year-old featured in 37 matches for Man City last season but failed to find the back of the net or create a goal for them in various competitions.

The Uzbekistan talent is currently one of the most talented centre-backs in the Premier League. Hence, it is no surprise that Chelsea are hoping to land him next year.

His current contract at the Etihad Stadium will run out in the summer of 2031, so Man City are in no immediate need to let him go this January or at the end of this season.

Should Manchester City Boss Enzo Maresca Cash In On Khusanov?

Khusanov is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his strong 1.86m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team.

The Uzbekistan international has proven himself to be a decent performer in the Premier League. However, he has fallen behind Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol in Man City‘s pecking order.

At the moment, Enzo Maresca cannot afford to offer him regular first-team starts at the Mancunian club. Hence, it is only fair to the player if Man City allows him to leave in the January transfer period or next summer.

At 22, Khusanov has a bright future ahead of him as long as he continues to improve with each year. He has what it takes to be successful at the highest level. Thus, Maresca should consider cashing in on him and using the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement in 2027.
