Manchester City are battling Manchester United for the signing of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dexter Oliver ahead of the summer transfer window, as per a new report.

City are set for a busy summer of incomings and outgoings and incoming sporting director Hugo Viana has a huge rebuilding job on his hands as he takes control of transfer deals from Txiki Begiristain, who will leave the club in the coming months.

Pep Guardiola’s side have looked lacklustre in attack and have shipped goals easily than ever before since the Catalan was appointed manager in the summer of 2016, which has seen them surrender their Premier League crown to Liverpool led by Arne Slot.

The Blues also came up short in the UEFA Champions League and were comfortably beaten by Real Madrid over two legs in their Round of 16 tie, which has sent a stark reminder of how far City have fallen this season as compared to the strongest sides in Europe.

Kevin De Bruyne was given an emotional farewell in the aftermath of Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth in midweek as the 33-year-old prepares for a new challenge after being told by Etihad Stadium bosses that he has no future at the club.

After withdrawing interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz – who was reliably reported to be City’s leading contender to replace De Bruyne – Manchester City are identifying alternatives whilst working on deals for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders.

Guardiola is expected to heavily rely on talents forged in the club’s prestigious academy next term after seeing Nico O’Reilly and James McAtee break into the first-team this season, with Oscar Bobb also expected to play a greater role after struggles with injury since August 2024.

As reported by Lilywhite Rose on X, Manchester City are fighting Manchester United to secure the arrival of Tottenham Hotspur’s highly-rated academy attacking midfielder Dexter Oliver ahead of the summer transfer window.

Oliver is yet to put pen to paper and sign a two-year scholarship at Tottenham amid interest from clubs across the Premier League, having signed with talent management firm ROC Nation Sports in March.

Manchester City have witnessed a number of academy graduates establish themselves as key first-team players under Guardiola over the years, with Phil Foden winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award after leading his boyhood club to a fourth successive Premier League title in the 2023-24 campaign.
