Manchester City have come through three trying fixtures against Manchester United, Napoli and Arsenal with two wins and a draw. That is a good run of results and performances from Pep Guardiola’s side. They have successfully navigated a tricky set of fixtures without several players who have been injured. Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Omar Marmoush and Mateo Kovacic have been out due to injury. Manchester City have received a boost today with Mateo Kovacic pictured training. His imminent return will give Pep Guardiola another quality option to employ in midfield when Kovacic is fit enough to return to the pitch.
Manchester City have trained earlier today as they continue their preparations for their Carabao Cup third-round tie against Huddersfield Town. It is expected that a host of key players for Pep Guardiola’s side will be rested for the match. That appears to be a formality. Which players are rested remains to be seen. But in good news for Manchester City, Mateo Kovacic has been pictured training. CityXtra has shared an image of the Croatian midfielder training on X. The image can be seen below.
Pep Guardiola has been unable to call upon Mateo Kovacic so far this season. The Croatian international had surgery on a troublesome Achilles injury at the end of last season. His recovery from surgery has seen him ruled out of the beginning of this season. But he is now on the comeback trail which is good news for Pep Guardiola’s side.
When fully fit, Mateo Kovacic will add depth and quality to Manchester City’s midfield. As an experienced player his knowledge will be a useful addition to a new-look City squad. Kovacic is a proven performer and his availability will allow Pep Guardiola more flexibility in midfield. That is a good thing for City, as the option to rotate and rest Tijjani Reijnders in particular will be a welcome option for Pep Guardiola to employ.
It is highly unlikely that Mateo Kovacic will be ready to feature for Manchester City against Huddersfield Town. But his return to the pitch is now imminent. That is welcome news for Pep Guardiola’s side.
