Pep Guardiola currently has the very best winger in European football at his disposal, according to one Manchester City legend.

Jeremy Doku’s electric start to the campaign has been one of the standout stories surrounding Manchester City, with the Belgian international emerging as a central attacking weapon for Pep Guardiola’s side.

His explosive dribbling, acceleration, and improved decision-making have seen him elevate his influence within the squad, particularly at a time when City have been adapting to tactical shifts and injury setbacks at various points across the forward line.

The 23-year-old’s form has drawn praise from across the Premier League, but inside the Etihad Stadium the belief is growing that Jeremy Doku is rapidly becoming one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted players.

His ability to destabilise defensive structures has opened up new dynamics for Manchester City’s attacking patterns, especially when paired with Erling Haaland’s movement or Phil Foden’s creativity in the half-spaces.

Speaking during a new interview with Best Betting Bonuses, Paul Dickov was quizzed on whether in Doku, Manchester City have the best winger in the Premier League at this present moment.

“I’d say he’s probably the best in Europe at the minute. Not just of his performance against Liverpool, which was top drawer, but I said before that despite Erling Haaland’s goals, Doku has consistently been City’s best player and biggest threat,” said Dickov.

He continued, “People were forgetting last season, questioning his end product a little. And maybe he was doing all these dribbles and playing at a mile-a-minute. Maybe his crossing and finishing suffered, but he’s worked so hard at his game. He’s only 23, a young boy, and just impossible to defend against when one on one.

“Even when Liverpool were trying to double up on him, two on one, he was still beating both defenders as if they weren’t there. The problem he has now is the standard he played at [vs Liverpool], people are going to expect that every week from him, which is going to be difficult.

“But at the minute, off the top of my head, I can’t think of a better winger in Europe, never mind in the Premier League.”

Paul Dickov’s assessment reflects growing optimism that Jeremy Doku could become one of the defining wide players of Pep Guardiola’s tenure. Many believe his ceiling remains far from reached, especially as he continues to refine his composure in the final third and develops a stronger understanding of the manager’s positional play principles.

Looking ahead, the Belgian’s role is expected to expand even further as Manchester City push deeper into the season. With the club fighting on multiple fronts, Doku could find himself at the heart of Guardiola’s tactical plans, especially in matches requiring directness and unpredictability.

His performances also raise questions around long-term squad structure, particularly as rivals attempt to identify solutions to stop him. If he maintains this trajectory, Doku may not only cement himself as a Premier League standout but could enter the conversation for individual honours.
