The Cityzens announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Roord sustained the injury during Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory over neighbours Manchester United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup at The Joie Stadium. The Dutch international left the field in the first half with just nine minutes on the clock.
Roord’s injury has now been fully assessed by the Manchester City medical team and it has been confirmed that she has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The midfielder will now miss the remainder of the season while she is unlikely to be fit for the start of the 2024/2025 campaign.
Manchester City signed Roord last summer from German club VfL Wolfsburg. The player signed a three-year deal with The Cityzens which will run until summer 2026. Roord has started all 11 of Manchester City’s fixtures in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League, scoring six goals. The player has proved to be the missing piece of the Manchester City jigsaw.
With Roord now out of action for the foreseeable future, Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor could dip into the transfer market in the next week to bolster his squad.
