Manchester City emphatically dispatched Sparta Prague 5-nil at the Etihad last night. The win saw City rise to third in the Champions League league phase table. While matters on the pitch went as well as City could’ve hoped for there was bad news before the game. Pep Guardiola revealed pre-game that Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish are set for a spell on the sidelines. The news is yet another injury blow for the world champions.
Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku both failed to train before City’s clash with Sparta Prague. Pep Guardiola was asked about the duo before his team’s win last night. The City manager revealed that the pair are both facing a spell on the sidelines. When asked about the pairs status Guardiola said: “Injury, both. Jeremy (will be out) a little bit longer than Jack but both are injured from the last games. I don’t know (how long they’re out for). Hopefully Jack one week, maybe 10 days, Jeremy a little bit longer.”
The news of the injuries suffered by Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish is yet another injury blow for Manchester City. Rodri and Oscar Bobb are both out with long-term injuries. Kyle Walker has also picked a knee injury while on international duty with England. Kevin De Bruyne is on the comeback trail from a groin injury but isn’t ready to return to the pitch. The injuries suffered by City’s wingers just adds to Manchester City’s injury concerns.
The coming weeks may be a war of attrition for Pep Guardiola’s side. The hope is now that Grealish and Doku can return sooner rather than later.
