Pep Guardiola has revealed that Manchester City will be without Jeremy Doku for two to three weeks.

Manchester City are set to take on Brentford in the quarter-final stage of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola faced the media earlier today and he was asked about how long Jeremy Doku is set to be sidelined for due to the leg injury he has sustained. The City manager revealed that he is expecting Doku to be out of action for two to three weeks. He explained: “Jeremy and John are out, Rodri is out. The rest I think will be ready. I don’t know [how long Doku will be out]. Two or three weeks. Sunderland in the New Year maybe. We will see.

The opportunity is there for someone else to step up in Jeremy Doku’s absence.

Jeremy Doku being ruled out of action for several weeks is a blow for Manchester City. Doku has been one of City’s better players this season and his growth as a player has been one of the success stories of the season. Doku has gone from a player who could provide moments of quality but was at times inconsistent. He has improved this aspect of his play and he is now a consistent performer whose pace and dribbling ability are key aspects of Manchester City’s attacking play. But with Doku out for several weeks, the opportunity is there for someone else to step up.

Ideally, Omar Marmoush would have been the player to take Jeremy Doku’s position. But he is on international duty with Egypt for the African Cup of Nations. So there is now an opportunity for Savinho or Oscar Bobb to make an impact. Given that Savinho can play on the left wing he seems to be the player most likely to take Doku’s place. The Brazilian international has played a series of promising cameos off the bench recently so he seems to be the player destined to fill the void left by Doku’s injury. It is now up to Savinho to seize the opportunity on offer if he is given the chance to start in Doku’s absence.

Jeremy Doku will miss several weeks due to the leg injury he has sustained. His absence is a blow for Manchester City but it does provide an opportunity for someone else to step up in his absence.
