Manchester United have reached an agreement on personal terms with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Ruben Amorim’s side are in negotiations with Aston Villa over a potential deal to sign Martinez, with talks reignited in recent days after discussions earlier in the transfer window.

United have returned for Martinez following a poor start to the season for current options Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana, both of whom have made mistakes leading to goals.

The Red Devils had approached Royal Antwerp to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens. However, a deal has failed to materialise and a move for the more experienced Martinez is being pursued concurrently.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have approached Antwerp about a deal for Lammens, in the event Martinez departs before Monday’s deadline. The Villans need to reduce their wage bill to remain compliant with UEFA’s financial rules and Martinez is an option to depart, with the Argentina among the club’s highest-paid players.

Interest from Old Trafford could see his sale sanctioned, with Lammens an option to replace the 33-year-old at Villa Park.
