Manchester United have made a fresh approach to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Ruben Amorim wants to bring in a new goalkeeper before Monday’s transfer deadline, amid concerns about the performances of Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana. Both goalkeepers have made mistakes leading to goals in the opening weeks of the new season.
United remain in talks to sign Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Senne Lammens, for a fee in the region of €20m. However, the Red Devils are understood to be making contingency plans if that deal fails to materialise.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting a new approach has been made for Martinez, following conversations with Aston Villa earlier this summer. The two teams discussed a potential deal for the 33-year-old, who had been expected to leave Villa Park in the current window.
Villa’s improved Premier League Profit and Sustainability (PSR) position and asking price saw talks fail to progress as expected, but the discussion has been reopened ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
United’s own financial position has been improved following the sale of Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea this week.
