Roma have been busy trying to acquire new players in the last few days, but they are bracing for a generous offer for Manu Koné from Manchester United. The Frenchman is central to their plans, but given their spending and Financial Fair Play problems, they aren’t in a position to take anyone off the market outright.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi have swatted away bids that fell short of €50M. That’s the threshold to start the negotiation. It remains to be determined whether the Red Devils like him that much after splurging on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

In addition to Manchester United, Chelsea could also target Koné, but he has PSG at the top of his preferences if he were to leave Roma. For now, there have been no hints of the reigning French champions being seriously keen on him.

If the powerhouse stayed after the Giallorossi declined significant proposals, a renewal and a pay bump would be the natural consequence. He’s already under contract until 2029. His wages are relatively low, €2.8M per year.

The capital club have announced the arrival of Rodrigo Mora from Porto and are ironing out the details for Malick Fofana. However, Olympique Lyonnais want to hold onto him until the return leg of the UEFA Champions League playoffs.

Our Take on Manchester United, Roma, and Koné

It’s a rumor that has lingered throughout the summer without much real substance. They have rejected the narrative, but it’s more likely than not that they’ll have at least one big sale. If it’s not Soulé, he’ll be next in line. If they start getting linked to midfielders, it’ll be a sign that something is going on.
