Manchester United are back at Carrington following the conclusion of their pre-season clashes and are undergoing preparations for Saturday’s season-opener.
The Red Devils kick off their 2026/2027 Premier League campaign away to Hull City in the early kick-off slot (12.30pm).
Sky Sports reporter Danyal Khan shared footage from the training ground this morning while confirming that both Benjamin Sesko and Matthijs de Ligt, who’ve been injured all summer, were with the group for today’s session.
However, Mason Mount was absent.
He was withdrawn in the early stages of the Reds’ encounter with Paris Saint-Germain on August 8 after going down with an injury.
The midfielder was spotted walking freely post-match, but proceeded to miss the final two friendlies against Leeds United and AC Milan.
Now, it looks increasingly likely that Mount will be unavailable for matchday one.
Considering INEOS have added only two midfielders (Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans) to the squad, who, in theory, replace the released Casemiro and sidelined Manuel Ugarte, the last thing Michael Carrick needed was another layoff.
Of course, it isn’t guaranteed that Mount will be ruled out, but fans are understandably fearing the worst given his checkered fitness record.
Since making the move from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford in July 2023, the £55 million signing has racked up only 25 league starts in three seasons.
He has made 72 appearances in total across all competitions and, according to Transfermarkt, has missed 70 games through injury.
Supporters had been pinning their hopes on this finally being the year that Mount could prove his worth and be relied upon for the entirety of the term – and Carrick will undoubtedly be doing the same.
