In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Manchester United are eyeing a January move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils are showing interest in recruiting the English centre-back in the winter transfer window.

Branthwaite’s Impressive Form At Merseyside This Season

Branthwaite has made a solid start to this Premier League campaign as he has managed to put in a few impressive displays at the heart of David Moyes’ defence. The English defensive ace has made five appearances for the Toffees this season in the league.

When fit, the 24-year-old is among the most talented centre-backs in the Premier League. Therefore, the Red Devils would do well to get him on board next year.

His current contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium will expire in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Man United to land him on a cut-price deal this January.

Should Manchester United Boss Michael Carrick Go For Branthwaite?

Branthwaite loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can use his strong 1.95m to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.

However, the English talent has picked up a few injuries in his young career and would be a risky option for Man United to consider this winter. Branthwaite is primarily a centre-half but can also fill in as a left-back if asked to do so by his manager. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Mancunian club.

We can expect Branthwaite to enhance the quality of Man United head coach Michael Carrick’s defence. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford.

At 24, Branthwaite has his peak years ahead of him and could be a real asset for the Red Devils in the coming years. He will also help the Mancunian giants compete across all competitions in the future. Therefore, Carrick would be wise to go for a defender with his skill set in the January transfer period.
