Manchester United are reportedly pushing to sign Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, according to multiple reports.
Guerra has been earmarked as an upgrade in central midfield for Manchester United as the Red Devils look to improve their options. The 22-year-old impressed at Valencia last season despite a difficult campaign for the Spanish side.
Calciomercato are claiming that Manchester United are nearing an agreement with Guerra, though Valencia have not given up hope of retaining the player.
Spanish journalist Héctor Gómez has confirmed Manchester United’s interest but has revealed that a contract extension will be submitted to Guerra in a bid to convince him to remain at The Mestalla. Valencia value Guerra, who has been a bright spark in an otherwise challenging period for the club, at around €30m.
Guerra has been targeted following the departure of Christian Eriksen and amid concerns that Casemiro can cope with the intensity of Ruben Amorim’s demands.
The Valencia midfielder has made 85 senior appearances for the club and has been a regular for Spain at youth level, earning 21 caps for the u-21 side.
Guerra combines a 6ft 2in frame with confident ball-carrying and is viewed as an ideal long-term option to improve the physicality of Amorim’s side.
