In a recent report, the Sun has mentioned that Manchester United are eyeing a move for Valencia midfielder Uros Racic during this ongoing transfer window. It is believed that the Serbian talent has a massive £92m release clause in his contract at the Mestalla Stadium, but the Red Devils could get him for around £28m because of the financial crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic (via The Sun).
The Kraljevo-born midfield ace went out on a season-long loan to play for Famalicao last summer. Racic produced quite a few memorable displays as a key member of João Pedro Sousa’s midfield in the 2019-20 Liga NOS campaign. The 22-year-old ended the previous season with three goals and two assists to his name in 39 matches for the Portuguese outfit across all competitions.
The Red Star Belgrade youth product cherished his loan stay at the Estádio Municipal de Famalicão as evident from his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 0.8 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Portuguese top-flight. He was careful with the ball when distributing it from midfield as he completed 79.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
The Red Devils can benefit a lot from recruiting a player of Racic’s skill set as he will significantly bolster their midfield depth and help them compete for major silverware in the coming seasons. The Valencia midfield ace can also benefit from a change of scenery before next month’s transfer deadline as it could inspire him to take his game to another level.
Racic can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park as he is a well-rounded midfielder who loves a tackle so that he can win possession back for the team. He has excellent ball control and can use his strong upper body strength to win a lot of 50-50 duels in the middle of the pitch. The Serbian sensation has also shown his knack for scoring and creating his fair share of goals from midfield. At 22, he still has plenty of time to transform himself into a world-class midfielder, so Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be wise to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams this season.
Racic has already shown several signs of promise and growth over the past 12 months. Thus, we can expect him to challenge for a first-team spot and compete with the likes of Nemanja Matic, Fred, Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba at Old Trafford in the coming seasons.
With the Red Devils back in the UEFA Champions League, Solskjaer would need a strong squad capable of withstanding the effects of fixture congestion in the 2020-21 campaign. All in all, Racic will be a decent choice for the Mancunian giants, but only if he is available for the right price.
