Mason Mount is still sidelined with a foot injury but there is positive news elsewhere

Manchester United have been handed some positive injury news ahead of the new Premier League season as Matthijs de Ligt and Benjamin Sesko featured in an open training session on Tuesday.

Sesko has been sidelined throughout pre-season after he sustained a shin injury against Liverpool in May. It was hoped he would be fit in time to feature in at least one friendly, but he did not recover in time.

It seems the 23-year-old could be in contention for Saturday’s Premier League opener away at Hull, with the club saying on manutd.com that he “will hopefully be available soon for selection.”

De Ligt, meanwhile, has not seen any competitive action since November 2025, when he suffered a back problem which ultimately required surgery.

Injury-plagued midfielder Mason Mount, though, is a major doubt for the Hull match after missing the training session.

United boss Michael Carrick had said Mount’s absence from their last two friendly games was precautionary after he picked up what the club has described as a knock against Paris St Germain on August 8.

He has missed two matches since then, though, and it remains unclear whether that was a precautionary move or if the issue is more serious than first thought.

It is another frustrating setback for Mount, who has struggled for fitness since joining United from Chelsea in 2023. He had impressed in a deeper midfield role alongside Andrey Santos in the early days of the summer, but it now seems fans will have to wait to see the new partnership in competitive action.

The Red Devils will definitely be without midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who sustained knee ligament damage playing for Uruguay at the World Cup and is due to miss much of the coming campaign.
