Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

Man United want to strengthen in the middle of the park and have moved on to other targets after a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson fell through.

The Red Devils are now closing in on a deal for Tielemans, with the Belgium international set to move to the Old Trafford club in the coming weeks.

The Villa star has the quality and experience Man United need in the position, and Michael Carrick will be pleased to have such a top player under him.

Tielemans has several suitors but he favours a move to the Theatre of Dreams and talks are ongoing between all parties to finalise the transfer.

The 29-year-old proved himself in four-and-half seasons with Leicester City before establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League at the Midlands club.

The Man United target played a key role in helping the Villans win the Europa League last term, and while he is under contract until June 2028, an exit appears to be on the cards this summer.

Tielemans has played almost 250 Premier League games since moving to England in January 2019, with 26 goals and 39 assists to his name.

He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can play centrally and further forward.

The Belgian impressed at the World Cup with his country, weighing in with two goals in five appearances.

An injury ruled Tielemans out of the quarter-final against Spain, and it proved costly as Belgium suffered a 2-1 defeat in his absence.

His passing, set-pieces’ delivery and blocking the ball are his major strengths, and adding him to their midfield could be a game-changer for Man United.
