Red Devils face Brentford at the weekend hoping to record back-to-back Premier League wins
Manchester United can reflect on a positive week as they prepare to face Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount returned from injury to take their place in the squad for the showdown against Chelsea, with both players coming on in the second half.
The pair contributed defensively as Man United held on to seal a vital win over the Blues at Old Trafford.
Captain Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro gave United a commanding lead over a Chelsea side that had been reduced to 10-men in the fifth minute when Robert Sanchez was shown a red card.
Casmeiro’s sending-off for two bookable offences evened things up on the stroke of half-time but despite Trevoh Chalobah’s late header, it was the Red Devils celebrating victory at full-time.
However, the Brazilian’s lack of discipline coupled with no Carabao Cup action for Ruben Amorim’s side in midweek means he will be suspended for the trip to the capital.
That is the only negative from a positive week for the club and with that in mind, here’s a look at the latest on the Manchester United injuries...
Diogo Dalot has now missed two Manchester United games in a row after withdrawing from Portugal’s squad during recent international break with ‘muscle discomfort’.
Not much has been disclosed about the defender’s injury, but his absence for the Chelsea fixture was confirmed by Amorim in the pre-match press conference.
Whether the full-back will be available for the Brentford game will be dependant on a return to training in the coming days.
Potential return date: September 27, 2025 vs Brentford (A)
There is more positive news as Lisandro Martinez is edging closer to a return from his ACL injury.
The Argentine has been sidelined since February with the issue, but is now back training on the grass at Carrington and Amorim is excited at the prospect of having the defender available for selection soon.
“When you have that injury, you have that time where you recover a lot of things really hard, then there is the boring part where it looks like you don't go to the next step,” Amorim said.
“We miss a lot Licha, especially in this moment, we miss his aggression in everything he does, we miss him.
“But he's always there in every meeting. In training, he sometimes finishes his and stays to watch the training. We need Licha in this team.”
Potential return date: Late 2025
