Manchester United make decision on Michael Carrick’s future after Brighton defeat | OneFootball

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick is already facing scrutiny after the club’s poor start to the new season.

The Red Devils crashed out of the League Cup at the first hurdle after Brighton & Hove Albion came back from 2-0 down to seal a sensational 3-2 success at Old Trafford.

Rumours are rife that United are doing their due diligence in the event they are forced to sack Carrick early this season.

However, The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell reports the English manager’s position is secure and there are no indications the club are drawing up contingencies on head coaches.

Carrick must win Fulham game

United’s performances have been far from convincing this season.

They have won just two of their six games across all competitions.

Carrick’s men defeated Ipswich Town 5-2 in the Premier League and later thrashed Sabah FK 4-0 in the Champions League.

However, their displays in the last two matches have been particularly concerning.

United lost 1-0 to Manchester City last weekend, despite their derby rivals playing with 10 men for over an hour.

Against Brighton, the Red Devils were 2-0 ahead within the first 10 minutes, thanks to goals from Shea Lacey and Mason Mount.

But their sloppy defending allowed the Seagulls back in the game, as they scored through Charalampos Kostoulas, Pascal Gross and Maxim De Cuyper to seal a brilliant comeback victory.

United will play their final league game at Fulham on Sunday before the international break.

Carrick must lead his team to victory at Craven Cottage, otherwise the pressure will further increase on him.
