According to a recent report from SPORT, Manchester United have decided to put an end to their interest in signing Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski, marking the end of speculation linking the Polish forward with a move to Old Trafford.

Lewandowski’s current deal with Barcelona runs until 2026, and reports suggest the veteran forward may not see out his contract.

With the Catalan club yet to open renewal talks, the 37-year-old could become a free agent next year.

As such, several clubs had shown interest in offering Lewandowski one final challenge before he considers moving to a lower-profile league, but no team has officially made a move yet.

What happened to Manchester United?

Among those clubs, Manchester United were initially seen as serious contenders. According to reports, Ruben Amorim had expressed admiration for Lewandowski’s professionalism and experience.

Amorim viewed the Polish striker as an ideal short-term addition, someone who could still perform at a high level while also mentoring United’s younger attacking talents.

However, the final decision was taken out of Amorim’s hands.

Club owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has blocked any move for players in the twilight of their careers, reflecting his long-term strategy of building a younger, sustainable squad for the future.

Ratcliffe’s stance effectively ended any possibility of negotiations with Lewandowski’s camp, as United now prefer to invest in younger targets who fit the club’s evolving vision.

What happens with Lewandowski now?

For the forward, the situation remains uncertain. The forward’s priority is to continue at Barcelona, even if that means accepting a pay cut and a reduced on-field role.

Yet, with injuries affecting his early-season form and Barcelona reassessing their wage structure, his future remains unresolved.

Meanwhile, European giants AC Milan and Juventus are keeping a close eye on developments.

Barcelona are expected to make a final decision on Lewandowski’s future only at the end of the season. Until then, his representatives will continue to explore options.
