Barcelona’s clause to sign Marcus Rashford for €30 million expired earlier this week, and the England international is now set to return to his home club at the end of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

Manchester United, however, have no plans to include him in their dynamics despite his impressive performances for Barcelona and England and are actively looking for suitors to sell him.

His wage off their bill, after all, would be a massive relief for the club and they are hoping to sell him for a hefty fee should his good form continue.

Aiming for a big money move

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United are pleased with how Rashford’s situation is progressing and are even possibly pleased that Barcelona did not trigger their option to purchase the player.

Given his numbers for the Catalan club and his promising start to the FIFA World Cup which included a goal against Croatia, they see his market value to be peaking at the right time.

The Red Devils are now increasingly confident of securing a big-money deal for the winger who is firmly frozen out of Michael Carrick’s plans and hope that he continues his great form as the World Cup progresses.

There is even talk of a figure of around £40 million being seen as an ideal transfer fee now, something that is far above the clause Barcelona had.

What is Barcelona’s stance?

Rashford was indeed disappointed to see the Catalans not exercise the option to buy as he felt he had done enough to earn the permanent move. Barcelona, however, surprised the world and signed his compatriot Anthony Gordon instead.

Despite everything, Rashford still has some hope of a return to Barcelona, but every good performance ironically makes that more impossible.

The £40 million price tag Manchester United expect, in fact, is already far beyond what Barcelona are willing to spend.

As matters stand, a reunion thus looks unlikely, nor is it a priority for the club to push for. Moreover, the Red Devils are no longer open to the option of a second loan which Barcelona proposed either.

It remains to be seen how the situation evolves, for Rashford is not opposed to leaving for another destination should a good offer of a permanent transfer arrive.
