Manchester United are seriously interested in snapping up Sofyan Amrabat in the upcoming transfer window, according to SPORT.
Forming an impressive midfield partnership with Azzedine Ounahi, Amrabat was a standout performer for Morocco during their impressive World Cup run where the Atlas Lions became the first-ever African team to reach the semi-final of football’s biggest tournament.
While Ounahi’s heroics in Qatar have since earned him a move to Olympique Marseille, Amrabat is still with Fiorentina and has helped La Viola reach the finals of the Coppa Italia and Conference League.
Unsurprisingly, the 26-year-old is not short of suitors around Europe. Barcelona tried to sanction a loan move for Amrabat back in January but were handicapped by Financial Fair Play restrictions.
The La Liga champions remain interested in landing Amrabat this summer as a replacement for the recently-departed Sergio Busquets.
However, Barca are still in a financial cul-de-sac and that looks set to once again hinder a move for Amrabat, who is reportedly now considering other options.
Following in the footsteps of his elder Nordin Amrabat, Sofyan could be heading for the Premier League with Manchester United now working towards acquiring his services.
Erik ten Hag’s men are in need of reinforcement in the centre of the park having pursued Frenkie de Jong throughout last summer, albeit all to no avail.
With De Jong still keen on continuing with his current employers Barcelona, United will have to look elsewhere in their search for a new midfielder and have set their sights on Amrabat.
The Red Devils’ season came to a sad end yesterday courtesy of a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup at Wembley.
United can now start working towards the summer transfer market as they look to close the gap on their city rivals.
