Manchester United are still hopeful that Arsenal can be persuaded to sell Myles Lewis-Skelly. 

However, manager Mikel Arteta said he was confident Lewis Skelly will stay at the Emirates Stadium. 

The talented teenager started against Manchester City in the Community Shield and the Premier League opener against Coventry City. 

According to The Sun, Lewis Skelly’s prominent role is partly due to Martin Zubimendi’s struggles and the late return of Mikel Merino, who featured in Spain’s World Cup final victory. 

Arsenal have slapped a £50 million price tag on the England international. Their asking price is unlikely to be met, which has fuelled Arteta’s confidence in keeping the player. 

Man United want to sign a new left-back before the end of the summer transfer window. 

Tyrell Malacia has left on a free transfer, and Patrick Dorgu plays in a more attacking role. 

Luke Shaw is their first-choice left-back, but he entered the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford. 

Lewis Skelly is one of the brightest talents to come out of Arsenal’s academy. He has already made 77 senior appearances, weighing in with eight goal contributions. 

The youngster struggled for regular opportunities last season, but he became increasingly important towards the end of the campaign.
