Manchester United could offer Sam Johnstone a route out of Wolves, with the 33-year-old expected to depart as the club revamp their goalkeeping department following relegation to the Championship.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, United are considering a move for their former youth-team goalkeeper as they seek cover for first-choice Senne Lammens.

Johnstone came through United’s academy, taking loans at Walsall and Villa, before joining Albion for an initial £6.5million in 2018. He made 167 appearances across four years with the Baggies.

He then spent two seasons with Crystal Palace before joining Wolves in 2024. He has made 27 appearances, missing the final months of this season with a shoulder injury.

Another goalkeeper with an uncertain summer is Emi Martinez, who is being eyed by Juventus after hopes of signing primary target Alisson faded.

Martinez looked close to leaving Villa last summer, though an anticipated move to Manchester United did not materialise. The 33-year-old then played a key role in Europa League glory and a Premier League top-four finish under Unai Emery.

Villa are not actively seeking a sale, though a decent offer could prompt a rethink, and Gazzetta dello Sport says Juventus are monitoring the situation. No movement is expected until after the World Cup, when Martinez aims to help Argentina defend their title.
