Manchester United could offer Sam Johnstone a surprise route out of Wolves this summer. The 33-year-old is expected to leave as Wolves look to revamp their goalkeeping department after relegation to the Championship.
United could consider the former academy goalkeeper as cover for No.1 Senne Lammens. Gazzetta suggests Juventus are monitoring Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez.
Johnstone came through United’s ranks, took loans at Walsall and Villa, then joined Albion for an initial £6.5million in 2018.
He made 167 appearances in four years with the Baggies, spent two seasons at Crystal Palace, then moved to Wolves in 2024.
Johnstone has featured only 27 times in two years at Molineux, missing the final months of this season with a shoulder injury.
Martinez’s future is also uncertain this summer. Juventus are eyeing the Villa goalkeeper after hopes of signing primary target Alisson faded.
The 33-year-old appeared close to leaving Villa last summer, yet a proposed switch to Manchester United did not materialise.
He then played a key role in Unai Emery’s team winning the Europa League and clinching a top-four Premier League finish. Villa are not actively looking to sell, though a decent offer could prompt a rethink, and any movement is unlikely before the World Cup as Martinez aims to help Argentina defend their title.
