Newcastle United confirmed on Tuesday that experienced goalkeeper John Ruddy has left the club, leaving the 39-year-old looking for a new team.

Earlier in the week, Ruddy had said his time at St James' Park was over. He spent the last two seasons with the Magpies as third-choice, did not make a first-team appearance, and Eddie Howe highlighted his influence in the dressing room.

His exit comes eight years after he helped Wolves win the 2017-18 Championship title. He arrived at Molineux from Norwich, where he had previously won the Championship play-offs.

Under Nuno Espírito Santo, Ruddy started all but one league match that season. A standout moment came in April 2018 when he saved an injury-time penalty at Cardiff, sending Wolves nine points clear.

He was named in the PFA Team of the Year and collected the EFL Golden Glove after keeping 24 clean sheets.
