Red Devils hoping for key defender’s return
Manchester United are hoping to have a senior centre-back fit again for tonight’s visit of Brentford.
Michael Carrick was missing Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt against Chelsea, where United escaped with a 1-0 win thanks to Matheus Cunha.
Yoro suffered an injury in training, while Martinez and Maguire continued to serve suspensions.
De Ligt remains out with a back injury, alongside Patrick Dorgu who is sidelined with a hamstring problem.
At Stamford Bridge, Ayden Heaven was partnered by natural right-back Noussair Mazraoui in the heart of defence.
The pair could continue in the middle against Brentford should Yoro not be fit enough to return, although Carrick indicated that the Frenchman could be in contention for a comeback.
“We are still working [on him], so there’s a possibility, but at this stage, we’re not 100 per cent sure,” Carrick said on Thursday.
Carrick also said that Dorgu was still not ready to train with the first-team squad having been out since January when he hobbled off in the 3-2 win at Arsenal.
Otherwise, United will be at full strength in the other two-thirds.
In midfield, expect Kobbie Mainoo to partner Casemiro, and Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to flank Bruno Fernandes with Benjamin Sesko up top.
Predicted Man Utd XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Mazraoui, Heaven, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko
Venue: Old Trafford
