Red Devils take on Brighton in FA Cup third round
Manchester United continue their post Ruben Amorim-era with an FA Cup third round tie against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Darren Fletcher took caretaker charge at Burnley on Wednesday, with the Red Devils drawing 2-2 at Turf Moor.
Benjamin Sesko struck twice, but his second was cancelled out by Jaidon Anthony as the Clarets snatched a point.
Fletcher, taking charge of his first ever game as a senior manager, fielded a 4-2-3-1 formation, going completely against Amorim’s previous 3-4-2-1 that the Portuguese was wedded to.
He started Senne Lammens in net, although deputy Altay Bayindir could get a look-in for this game.
Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw were at full-back, with natural left wing-back Patrick Dorgu in a more advanced position off the left flank.
You would imagine that the pair will start again here, with a distinct lack of back-up options available to Fletcher.
Tyrell Malacia is the alternative to Shaw or Dorgu on the left, but he has not featured since his reintegration into the first team following his banishment to Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ in the summer.
On the right, natural replacement Noussair Mazraoui is on international duty with Morocco at AFCON, and will miss out here.
In the centre of defence, Ayden Heaven partnered Lisandro Martinez at Burnley, although Harry Maguire returned from injury to be named on the bench in Lancashire.
He could make a comeback alongside Leny Yoro against the Seagulls.
Bruno Fernandes was another returner from injury at Turf Moor, but his minutes were managed alongside fellow returnee Mason Mount, who replaced the United skipper on the hour, with Yoro coming on for Heaven.
You would expect Mount to be given a start here, perhaps alongside Fernandes, to build up the pair’s minutes and look to play them back into form.
Out wide, options are severely limited with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo both at AFCON.
Matheus Cunha was off the right and Dorgu on the left against Burnley, with two-goal hero Sesko up top.
One would think Fletcher will likely plump for similar again, although Joshua Zirkzee could come in for Sesko.
Predicted Man Utd XI (4-2-3-1): Bayindir; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Casemiro, Ugarte; Dorgu, Fernandes, Cunha; Zirkzee
Injured: de Ligt
AFCON: Amad, Mbeumo
