Summer signing set to return from injury in Old Trafford clash
Matheus Cunha looks set to return for Manchester United tonight when they face West Ham in the Premier League.
The summer signing sat out both the recent home loss to 10-man Everton and Sunday’s 2-1 win at Crystal Palace with an unspecified knock picked up in training.
However, United head coach Ruben Amorim said ahead of the visit of the Hammers to Old Trafford on Thursday night: “Matheus is good.
“He has more levels to go. He’s at a different club, different pressure, he was struggling because he was not scoring, he was thinking too much about the numbers but the influence he has in the team is important to us.”
It remains to be seen if Cunha comes straight into the starting lineup after Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee both scored against Palace, with a place on the bench perhaps more likely.
Fellow forward Benjamin Sesko will be sidelined with a knee injury for a couple more weeks yet, with Harry Maguire's hamstring issue ruling the defender out for a similar length of time.
Leny Yoro could be handed a rest, with Noussair Mazraoui pushing for a return in an otherwise unchanged backline.
Captain Bruno Fernandes should continue in a midfield two alongside Casemiro, having been spotted clutching his hamstring against Palace before Amorim quickly allayed any injury fears.
Amorim confirmed that two other United players are doubtful for the game against West Ham, but stopped short of revealing who they are.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Lammens; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dalot; Mbeumo, Mount; Zirkzee
Injured: Sesko (knee), Maguire (hamstring)
Time and date: 8pm GMT tonight on Thursday December 4, 2025
