Manchester United have seen many new signings fail over the last decade.
Sadly, it appears that the £51 million signing of Manuel Ugarte is set to become the latest example of United’s flawed transfer model.
The Uruguayan midfielder had a rollercoaster season last year but did play regularly. He featured in 45 matches, scoring two goals and providing six assists in all competitions.
Ugarte has been much less involved this season, playing in only 11 matches so far.
With United aiming to sign several midfielders in the upcoming transfer windows, it seems Ugarte has little future at the club.
As a result, The Peoples Person asked its readers what they believe should be done with the out-of-form Uruguay international.
62% of fans were in no doubt about his future, claiming that he must be sold in January as he has no chance of staying at the club.
Furthermore, they believe that his sale should be used to fund a move for a replacement in the winter market.
16% of readers felt that Ugarte should be loaned out to maintain his value and to allow for a reevaluation in the summer market.
Perhaps if the defensive midfielder could play regularly away from the spotlight at Old Trafford, it might help him recapture the best form that Ruben Amorim saw at Sporting CP.
14% of United fans believe that we still have not seen what Ugarte is capable of and that he deserves more time at the club.
Some supporters feel that, if given time, he can be a useful squad option in Amorim’s system.
Finally, 8% of supporters feel that Ugarte should be sold, but not until the summer.
Perhaps they realise that United are unlikely to be able to sign any of their first-choice midfield targets until the summer window.
