Arsenal look close to officially announcing the signing of Bruno Guimaraes, with Newcastle United expected to potentially make more money from this sale further down the line.
The Brazil international shone at St James’ Park and is an exciting new addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad, though it seems this deal was understandably not cheap.
According to FourFourTwo, it’s expected that Arsenal will pay around £80m for Guimaraes, which rests somewhere in the middle of the £60m they initially set out to pay, and the £100m Newcastle were asking for.
The report adds, however, that there are likely to be extra hidden bonuses in there that Newcastle have kept secret.
“There are a lot of details involved in this transfer and many bonuses that Newcastle are not planning to make public,” ESPN journalist Bruno Andrade is quoted as saying in the piece.
“I’ve spoken to people who took part in the negotiations, and there is actually more money involved in the agreement between the clubs.”
This is obviously quite common for clubs to negotiate when it comes to selling a player, as Newcastle will likely have felt they could stand to cash in a bit more for the 28-year-old if he goes on to make a certain number of appearances and/or win a certain number of trophies at the Emirates Stadium.
This kind of outcome suits both clubs well, as Arsenal would also surely be happy to take that gamble and pay a bit more if Guimaraes does indeed end up playing a key role in their future success
The former Lyon star has been a world class performer during his time in the Premier League, and his arrival at Arsenal should surely only help the north London giants retain their title and go one step further in the Champions League.
