FC Barcelona salvaged a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Newcastle United despite not playing at their best. Now, they have the opportunity to get the job done and advance to the next round of the competition by winning the second leg at home.

The Catalans are once again the favorites to win the UCL this season, but it is clear that they will have to work a lot to achieve this objective. This was definitely the view of one of the most experienced players in this Barcelona squad, i.e., Robert Lewandowski.

As SPORT has reported, the Pole appeared in an interview with Romario, in which he talks about his side’s chances of winning the UCL. The interview has not yet been published in full, but some parts have been published, and its highlights are as follows. Lewandowski believed it is still early to make any predictions about the UCL:

“Winning the Champions League, of course, is not easy. Even if you think you’re in good form and the team is playing well, there are still many matches. I think we can talk about winning the Champions League if we are playing in the semifinals, because before that, it doesn’t make sense. In football, many things can happen. One week can change a lot.”

Meanwhile, he also hoped that his Barcelona team would be able to maintain its fitness and form in the business end of the season:

“We try to keep our level high until the end of the season. I hope we don’t have many injuries and that during the most important part of the season, we can all be on the field. In football, it’s also important to be at the right moment, in the right position, and performing at a high level.”

This interview was done before the first leg against Newcastle United, and the result of that game only goes on to show how difficult it is to make predictions about the UCL.

Still, one can only hope that Barcelona would once again go on to show their class in the competition, and Robert Lewandowski can contribute with his experience and skills.
