Maracanã has undergone turf maintenance and is ready for the clássico with Vasco. It will be Flamengo’s first outing at the ground since 3 December, when they clinched their ninth Brasileirão against Ceará.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the work followed Zico’s Jogo das Estrelas on 27 December, with the surface scraped.
The hybrid pitch promises improvements and greater stability after the placement of new sand. Excess vegetation was removed, including roughly one centimetre of the layer beneath the grass, before regrowth.
Flamengo v Vasco in the third round of the Campeonato Carioca kicks off at 21:30 Brasília time on Wednesday, 21. Globo will show the match free-to-air across much of the country, with GETV, SporTV and Premiere also broadcasting.
Flamengo are chasing a first win in this year’s competition after one draw and two defeats. Vasco, with a game in hand, aim to preserve an unbeaten start of one win and one draw.
