Marc-André ter Stegen, on loan from Barcelona to Girona in January, will have surgery this week on a left hamstring injury, with his lay-off expected to be measured in months.

The 33-year-old started the past two matches, then suffered the injury in Saturday's 0-1 defeat to Real Oviedo. He is scheduled for surgery on Friday. According to AS, the recovery could exceed two months and stretch to four.

The length of his absence will be confirmed after the operation. Girona have him on loan until the end of the season.

That timeframe could put his participation at the World Cup, set for 11 June to 19 July 2026, at risk.

The Germany international has 44 caps.
