Marc Casado relations with Barcelona broke down prior to summer exit | OneFootball

On the final day of the 2026 summer transfer window, Barcelona loaned out Marc Casado to fellow La Liga side RC Deportivo. The midfielder was always expected to leave after being informed that he no longer counted for Hansi Flick, but rather than securing a transfer that the club hoped for, he’s only left on a temporary basis.

Casado was someone that Barcelona hoped to get good money for, given that he had a market. Furthermore, several clubs showed a lot of interest in signing him, but the player himself ultimately decided that he wanted to stay in Spain, which is why the Deportivo moved materialised.

Marca have lifted the lid on how Casado’s situation played out over the summer. The midfielder accepted the club’s decision to push him towards the exit door, although he was very unhappy at the decision to exile him from training – also to take his squad number away and give it to Anthony Gordon. This led to strained tensions, and these increased from the club’s side when it became clear that a transfer was not possible.

Casado turned down lucrative moves to Saudi Arabia, Türkiye

The clubs most interested in Casado during the summer were those from Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, but despite the lucrative packages that were on offer to player and club, the 22-year-old made it clear that he was not interested in a move to either country. Furthermore, Barcelona did not receive any other offers from clubs that were keeping tabs on the situation, which is why they were forced to accept a loan to Deportivo.

Casado, who considers Barcelona the club of his life, will almost certainly be heading back to Catalonia next summer, with Deportivo unlikely to pay the €30m buy option that is available to them. At that point, a new solution will be needed, and it could be an equally frustrating process for both.
