Sunderland and Nottingham Forest have been linked with Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado as the transfer window enters its final week. El Mundo Deportivo reports that the 22-year-old, a twice-capped Spain international, is not in Hansi Flick’s plans and could leave if a suitable offer arrives.

The La Masia product has no squad number this season and the report says an exit is only a matter of time, with a fee of £25m to £35m mentioned.

Casado is said to prefer staying in Europe despite interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, and has also been tracked by Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Brighton.

He has made 75 senior appearances for Barcelona after a debut in a Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen in November 2022.

Sunderland strengthened midfield on Monday by signing DR Congo international Jules Ahoka from Royal Antwerp in a reported £10m deal, becoming the latest addition under Regis Le Bris. He arrived over the weekend and follows Thomas Meunier and Dayaan Methalie into a Europa League-bound squad. The midfielder expressed pride at joining and a desire to work hard and develop.
