Manchester City have completed the signing of centre-back Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. According to The Athletic, the package is worth 30m plus bonuses and a sell-on clause.
Out of contract at season’s end, he could have left on 30 June. City were the only club ready to act this month.
Pep Guardiola called him a top central defender of the right age, able to play on either side. He added City need him in the coming months and that the player chose them.
Guehi looked set for Liverpool on deadline day in a 35m move last summer, but Palace withdrew after failing to find a replacement.
Josko Gvardiol has had surgery on a fractured tibia, Ruben Dias has a hamstring problem and John Stones has been out since early December with a thigh injury. City also recalled 20-year-old Max Alleyne from Watford for cover.
On Friday, Palace head coach Glasner said the deal was in its final stages and that Guehi would not face Sunderland. He also confirmed he will leave at the end of the season.
Guehi joined from Chelsea in July 2021, made 188 appearances, captained in 2024-25 and lifted the FA Cup in May. He is City’s second signing of the window after Antoine Semenyo arrived from Bournemouth for 32.5m.
