Following a successful summer transfer window, Manchester United is not yet finished bolstering their squad.
While it’s been a strong start to the new Premier League season for Ruben Amorim’s men, there are certainly specific areas on the pitch where Man United are in need of reinforcements, especially if they hope to remain competitive at the highest level.
One area where they seem to be in need of fresh blood is their defence, with one Premier League star being targeted in particular.
The player on United’s radar
Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi was identified as a potential transfer target for United, with the player being linked to the club heavily in recent months.
As relayed by The Peoples Person, United are reportedly considering signing Guehi as a replacement for Harry Maguire, particularly given his uncertain contract situation.
Confidence in United’s ability to sign Guehi grew after Palace reportedly set an asking price of around €20m for him in January.
Still, they aren’t alone in their pursuit, with Liverpool also showing an interest in the centre-back.
According to a new report, there is one clear favourite in the race between United and Liverpool to sign the Crystal Palace captain.
The transfer favourite emerges
“Crystal Palace believe only Liverpool may attempt to buy Marc Guehi in January,” Sky Sports reported.
“The feeling around Selhurst Park is that the other major European sides interested in Guehi are only willing to sign him as a free agent next summer,” the article continued, with United already being mentioned as a team in this category in past reports.
“Liverpool remain interested in Guehi after a late £35m deal to buy him collapsed on Deadline Day in the summer,” the article concluded.
While this update doesn’t rule United out of the transfer race, it appears that the club has to decide where its priorities lie.
If Amorim truly wants Guehi, United will need to submit a convincing offer in order to beat Liverpool to the finish line. If saving money is more important, then perhaps the club will need to look elsewhere.
