Speaking at a Laureus event, the 1998 World Cup winner said he was pleased Prestianni would not play and felt Mourinho had changed his posture. He added that Vinícius could celebrate at home or away without issue.

Desailly said it was crucial to change how the Brazilian forward is perceived, calling abuse inside stadiums unacceptable. He added that they would see what happens.

Before the trip to Barcelos, Mourinho set out a strict line in his pre-match briefing. He said that if any of his players failed to respect principles he and Benfica uphold, that player would be finished under him at the club. He added that if the player were found guilty he would not look at him the same, while stressing the many ifs.

On Sunday 1, Vinícius Júnior argued with Allan Nyom over the Cameroonian’s celebration. Real Madrid lost 1-0 to Getafe and are four points off leaders Barcelona in La Liga.
