Villarreal have resumed training after a rest day as Marcelino steps up preparations for Monday’s game at Girona.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the squad worked without their internationals earlier in the week, and Marcelino chose to reintegrate them from Friday, with the Monday kick-off allowing three days of work.

Ayoze Pérez has been training and could be included in the Girona squad after overcoming his fitness problems.

The returning players are Nicolás Pepe, Pape Gueye, Alex Freeman, Tani Oluwaseyi, Tajon Buchanan, Renato Veiga, Thomas Partey and George Mikautadze, with the Georgian having joined up several days ago. The team trained on Saturday at 11.30, and the final session is scheduled for Sunday at 11.30 after Marcelino García Toral’s pre-match press conference.

Juan Foyth and Pau Cabanes remain long-term absentees and will miss the rest of the season. With medical clearance, Kambwala hopes to make his debut after the break, while Logan Costa is edging closer following a serious knee injury.
