Marcelo Bielsa has reflected on his post-match interview after Uruguay’s 2026 World Cup exit on Friday, explaining his behaviour.
According to L'Équipe, the Uruguay coach briefly lost his temper with a technician during the interview that followed the game, then addressed the incident later in his press conference.
He said broadcasters who purchase rights oblige coaches to provide a set number of answers, and that such demands are enforced in moments of anguish as if they were moments of joy. He reacted to repeated delays in the mandatory questions and, overwhelmed by pain, accepts this may explain why he was not as polite as he should have been.
Uruguay finished third in Group H after drawing 1-1 with Saudi Arabia and 1-1 with Cape Verde, then losing 0-1 to Spain.
With only two points, La Celeste did not make the cut among the best third-placed teams, posting the lowest points total.
