Marcelo Bielsa has reportedly confirmed he will leave his role as Uruguay manager after this summer's World Cup, yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk reports.
Bielsa marked three years in charge earlier this month, having taken over in May 2023, his first job after leaving Leeds the previous year. He oversaw historic back-to-back wins over Brazil and Argentina, the first time since 1959.
Uruguay's qualification means Bielsa will contest a third World Cup on a third continent. He led Argentina at Japan 2002, then took Chile to South Africa in 2010, reaching the knockout stages before Brazil ended their run.
This cycle has not been without strain. He has publicly clashed with some senior names, including Luis Suarez, and there were calls for his dismissal after a 5-1 defeat to the USA in November. He later held a press conference, fielding questions for more than two hours, and said his plans were unchanged with focus on the World Cup.
Uruguay are in Group H and open against Saudi Arabia on June 15, then face Cape Verde six days later. Their final group game is against Spain on June 27.
