Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz addressed Memphis Depay’s contract and registration, saying a simple administrative fix could quickly restore the forward’s eligibility while the club pursues a renewal.

"Memphis has an employment contract with Corinthians until 31 July and his federative registration was valid until 20 June. We just need to extend that federative registration and align it with the employment deal, this depends only on a signature from president Osmar and one from Memphis," he told Identidade Corinthiana.

"There is interest in keeping him. I have said this a few times, but it is important to repeat, communication requires frequency. Memphis is playing at the World Cup, so by mutual agreement we feel he should keep his focus and at the right time we will go deeper into it."

"He knows he will need to reduce the numbers and sign a new contract, different from the current one. He knows that exactly and is willing to make that effort. Fernando Diniz likes him a lot and counts on him, and he enjoys Corinthians and is proud to be Corinthian."

In the meantime, Corinthians are planning his schedule for the final weeks of his current deal. The club intend to give him a short break once the Netherlands end their World Cup. They play Cascavel in a friendly on 12 July, then Remo at Neo Química Arena on 23 July, Bahia away four days later, and host Athletico-PR on 30 July, all in the Brazilian league.
