Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz has moved to keep attention on the pitch following Memphis Depay’s departure. According to Meu Timao, his internal message is to prioritise upcoming fixtures and results.
Speaking informally to reporters during Wednesday’s open training, he stressed the need to maintain normal work at CT Joaquim Grava and pursue results on the pitch.
Paz viewed Depay’s continued presence as important for the squad and had said so publicly before. That aim ended once it was confirmed the forward’s contract would not be renewed.
He has also spoken with head coach Fernando Diniz about concentrating efforts on the next assignment. The intention is to prevent the Dutchman’s exit from unsettling preparations, with a degree of shielding around CT Joaquim Grava so players, staff and directors focus on the season’s challenges.
Depay closed his Corinthians spell with 79 appearances, 62 as a starter, delivering 40 wins, 18 draws and 21 defeats. He had direct involvement in 35 goals, scoring 20 and supplying 15 assists, and won the Campeonato Paulista, Copa do Brasil and Supercopa do Brasil across two seasons.
Corinthians return to action on Thursday against Rosario Central in Argentina, the first leg of the Copa Libertadores last 16 at the Estádio Gigante de Arroyito, kicking off at 21:30.
