“He is showing our management trust and a desire to stay to help and rebuild Santos,” said club president Marcelo Teixeira. He was speaking to Rica Perrone on YouTube.
Neymar is under contract until December 2026 and, with his deal in its final months, he can now sign a pre-contract elsewhere. “We have not yet discussed a renewal. We have to wait, elections are at the end of the year and it is impossible to guarantee his stay, it will depend a lot on the management proposal,” Teixeira said.
Teixeira added that Santos’ partnership with NR Sports, the Neymar family company, is not tied to the forward’s minutes. “The partnership continues regardless of the athlete on the pitch,” he said.
“Today it is clear Neymar could be playing for any other club abroad,” he said. “Since they returned last year there has been an intention to collaborate with Santos and with the management. In my view he should continue the work that is being done.”
NR Sports has funded projects at the club, including improvements at the CT Rei Pelé and Vila Belmiro. It recently injected R$ 12 million to settle a Monaco debt over Jean Lucas that had triggered a FIFA transfer ban, with shirt space granted in return.
Neymar has also helped in recruitment, speaking to Arthur Melo during talks before the midfielder joined. Santos still owe around R$ 80 million in image rights to Neymar’s father, a sum being paid in instalments over up to 80 months.
