Claudio Marchisio says he would have stayed at Juventus if he were Dusan Vlahovic, revealing how he would have handled the situation the striker found himself in Turin at the end of last season.
Vlahovic had an expiring contract, and Juventus reportedly tried several times to agree a new deal with him. The striker showed some willingness to remain at the club, but he was reportedly asking for more money than Juventus could offer.
In the final year of his contract, Vlahovic earned a net salary of 1m euros per month, while Juventus were looking to halve that amount so it would fit within their latest financial parameters.
The club have been burdened by years of overpaying players, while they have struggled to achieve significant success and even ended last season outside the Champions League places.
Vlahovic said the club were not particularly keen to keep him until his deal expired, but several reports claimed he rejected their approaches before his contract ran out. Marchisio believes the striker should have accepted a pay cut and remained at Juventus.
The former Juventus player feels Vlahovic could have handled the situation differently by working to improve his relationship with the club. He also believes staying in Turin would have been preferable, even if it meant accepting a lower salary.
Marchisio has now explained his view on the situation and the decision Vlahovic ultimately made.

The former Juventus midfielder believes the striker should have prioritised remaining at the club rather than accepting a higher salary elsewhere. As quoted by Tuttomercatoweb, he said:
“Vlahovic? If I were him, I would have handled the situation differently, I would have tried to improve the relationship with Juve, who gave him so much. I would have given up a higher salary to stay at Juve. Moreover, he went to play for a team that doesn’t play in the Champions League”
Marchisio’s comments make clear that he believes Vlahovic should have made a different choice when considering his future, particularly given his relationship with Juventus and the opportunity to remain at the club.
