António Silva is very close to leaving Benfica for Bournemouth, putting Marco Rose on course to work with Marco Silva’s pupil.

If the deal is completed, the first leg against St. Gallen in the Europa League second qualifying round would have been his final outing for the Eagles. Italian journalist Nicolò Schira reports that Benfica required him to remain available for that match before approving the exit.

The Portugal international is expected to sign a five-season contract with the Premier League club, keeping him there until June 2031. It would be his first move outside Portugal.

A Seixal academy graduate, António Silva was about to begin his fifth season in Benfica’s first team and captained the opening games of the new campaign. His departure would end a long spell in which he established himself as a leading figure in the squad.

After the game in Switzerland, Marco Silva said he would continue to plan with the defender until any official confirmation of a transfer, adding that all preparation and conversations with him were conducted as with a Benfica player.
