Marco Silva’s new favourite could push Benfica starter to the bench | OneFootball

Claudio Echeverri is making a case during the international break, impressing Marco Silva and potentially putting Sudakov on alert for his starting role.

According to Glorioso 1904, Silva has used the pause to work closely at Seixal with a small group, including Echeverri, on loan from Manchester City, who is trying to earn a place.

The Argentine had a little over 10 minutes against Gil Vicente, which the coach felt was enough to show his qualities. He said the break should help, with fewer players available and time to bring him up to speed.

Silva was pleased with Echeverri’s cameo in a decisive phase, noting how the teenager sought the ball, linked play in tight spaces and accepted responsibility in an advanced role.

Echeverri then appeared from the bench away to Milan at San Siro and Porto at the Dragão. Silva views him as an alternative for the most advanced midfield position, which could affect Sudakov, who started in Porto but was withdrawn in the first half after Clément Lenglet’s red card.

With five matches scheduled before the end of October, Silva faces a congested run and Echeverri’s progress in this window could hand him another option. Benfica return on 10 October to face Vitória de Guimarães in the 8th round of the I Liga.
