Marcos Lamacchia made a surprise appearance before Palmeiras v Vasco on Sunday, the Brasileirão match ending 4-1 at Nubank Parque. The businessman has bid to buy the club’s SAF.

According to Globo.com, he decided to attend the day before and dined with Vasco directors in São Paulo on Saturday. Club president Pedrinho stayed in hospital with his mother.

He arrived about an hour before kick-off, visited the dressing room to meet head coach Pedro Emanuel and football staff, then met director of football Admar Lopes and Palmeiras president Leila Pereira. He was accompanied by partner Mário Junqueira of Almirante Participações.

Lamacchia is motivated and wants the court to authorise the auction of the SAF so he can begin a purchase process and assume control as soon as possible. He said he was waiting on a court decision to allow the auction so they could transform Vasco, adding that for now that was all.

The priority for him and the club is the judicial recovery case. Vasco are pursuing a R$150 million DIP loan while the sale process stalls, with a belief that quicker court progress would remove the need for loans and ease creditor concerns.

He has pledged to advance two years of recovery-plan payments, discussed across the weekend. He watched from a box with Vasco directors and Junqueira. Vasco are 19th and now focus on the Copa do Brasil, facing Vitória in midweek.
