Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has expressed his outrage at loanee Marcus Rashford.

Troubled two years

The 2022/2023 season saw an incredible Marcus Rashford who scored 30 goals in all competitions under Erik ten Hag.

The 2023/2024 season however saw a massive drop in production and form. What’s more, he had problems off the pitch such as a drinking bender in Belfast.

He fell out with Ruben Amorim last year and was loaned out to Aston Villa before securing a temporary move to FC Barcelona in the summer.

Positive start

The Englishman had a quiet start to life in Catalonia but he burst into life with two goals in the Champions League versus Newcastle United and two assists in his last two La Liga matches.

Gave up on United

Former United midfielder Paul Scholes is not best pleased with the forward though and he gave his reasons on The Good, The Bad and The Football Podcast.

Speaking on the show he stated, “I struggle to feel happy for him, mainly because of his attitude. His attitude towards the end, especially towards Manchester United, I thought was disgraceful.”

“The amount of times I saw him at Man United, like walking, because he wants to leave. I thought his whole demeanour about him was a disgrace. I think he actually quit on Manchester United. Once you quit once, you’ll quit again.”

Then the former pros brought up the news that Rashford was dropped to the bench versus Getafe as he was late for a training session in preparation for the match.

“He was late last night, he won’t get away with that at Barcelona for long. There’s absolutely no chance.”

Time to grow up

Fellow former United star Nicky Butt was also on the show and he stated, “he needs to be aware, self-aware, he isn’t a baby anymore, he’s 27. He needs to be self-aware of the some of the stuff he does and how he projects himself. I thought we were going to come onto the show today and go ‘what about Marcus? What about that goal? I told you this’ and then he goes and does this and doesn’t turn up, he’s late for a game.”

Butt did claim that “he’s got that talent where he could still be one of the best players in the world.” Nonetheless, Scholes finally chimed in with the scathing remark, “he will never have the mentality though.”
